Should I re-crate an early riser (4am) or just get up?

Here`s another great article:

So I let my pup out for a wee/poo combo this morning at 4am. He was then full of beans and wanted to play, despite it having been a boring potty break (lights off, no talking etc). I re-crated him hoping he’d drop off back to sleep but he’s now been crying for two hours. I’ve not gone to him so he doesn’t learn that I’ll come release him when he cries. In future though, if he wakes early should I re-crate and only release in the morning, or just accept he’s awake and have a play, then re-crate when he gets sleepy again? If it helps, most nights he’s been sleeping till about 6/6:30.
