Question about how to separate larger puppy from older smaller dog when playing gets too rough.

Here`s another great article:

My wife voluntold me that I was puppy sitting a fairly new puppy, who is about twice the size and four times the energy than my two Yorkies. It's just an overnight stay, so the solution doesn't have to be permanent. The puppy really wants to play with my oldest Yorkie (7yrs) and she's having none of it, and is getting aggressive about it. The puppy is just being a puppy, I try to play with him and walk him to wear him out but my dude has infinity energy.

Is there a proper way to use the crate as separation without making him feel his crate is a punishment? I want to make sure I handle this correctly.
