Here`s another great article:
Hi puppy 101 friends!
I have a 7 month old Aussie who is generally a great puppy – super sweet, loves other dogs/people, too smart for her own good, etc. She is an amazing dog when my fiancé and I are both around. BUT, for whatever reason, when my fiancé leaves and it’s just the two of us, she becomes a different puppy. I can’t sit on the couch without her jumping up and nipping at me, she demand barks at me frequently, and just can’t calm down. I thought she might need more exercise/mental stimulation, so we just started taking her to doggie day care twice a week (on top of lots of other exercise/training/mental games), and she still behaves this way around me. I give her Kong’s, lickie mats, chews, and they distract temporarily, but she always ends up coming right back to nipping/swatting at me like I’m a toy or another dog.
We’ve been working with a trainer, and her recommendation was to ignore her when she nips at me and leave the room for 10-15 seconds to signify that play is over. I’ve been doing this for a couple of months now and nothing has changed. Any other advice on this?? I don’t want to be unable to be alone around my own puppy…
