Plush toy safety

Here`s another great article:

I have all my childhood plush toys – they've been in boxes moving house with me for the last 6+ years and I never take them out. I've been told many a time to throw them away, but it feels wasteful.

I'm wondering if I can give them to our puppy? There are obvious safety risks in the eyes – most of them have plastic eyes I'd have to remove. Is there anything else I should look out for? What are the differences between plush toys made for dogs, and plush toys made for human kids?
