Here`s another great article:
This is a relatively new behavior for her, and she’s just over a year. She absolutely hates surprises. If someone knocks on the door, or a stranger walks in, or literally even if she just didn’t realize my roommate was in the room, she starts barking. It isn’t a consistent barking, just like a couple times and once she realizes it’s fine she stops. Usually with strangers it’s a bit longer, but if it just was something she wasn’t expecting, it’s short.
I obviously can’t control unexpected changes in her environment, so how can I train her to stop this? Can I only be reactive (training a settle), or is there a way for me to be proactive?
I posted this to r/reactivedogs as well!
