I’m trying.

Here`s another great article:

Hi friends. I have a 7 month old mini Aussie and I swear he is the greatest thing that has ever happened to me. My husband and I devoted the first 4 months we had him (we’ve had him since he was 8 weeks) to training and play and just general puppy-parenthood. Now because of COVID, we’ve both started classes online, so even though we’re home, we can’t necessarily devote 100% of our attention to the pup. We try to make sure he gets lots of snuggles in the morning before our classes, as well as a good long walk, but I feel like he is just so bored all day. He constantly brings us toys to try to entice us to play, and every 3-4 hours or so we’ll take him out to go potty and indulge him and play for like 15 minutes, but in between that, he just chews up everything in sight. He has so many toys and lovely things to chew on, but he still prefers glue sticks, chapstick containers, random pieces of trash or plastic, and most of all, shredding cardboard. I’ve tried my best to keep things tidy and put away where he can’t get to them, but he still manages to find things to chew on. He also has recently started chasing, growling, and barking at everything outside. He used to have such good recall that we didn’t need to harness and leash him every time we took him outside, but now he’s terrorizing the neighborhood. He doesn’t bite or do anything to hurt people, but when he’s running and barking at a little kid, they’re understandably freaked out. Anyways, obviously all of this is very frustrating, and I already feel so guilty for not being able to devote all my time to shim right now, but I’m so tired of people treating me like I’m a bad dog owner. People say things like “if you exercised him enough he wouldn’t be like that” or “maybe you need to spend more time training your dog” or “dogs who get ignored all day tend to act up.” It’s so frustrating and heartbreaking because I love this dog like he’s my child and I truly am trying my best to be the best dog parent and be what he needs me to be. I figured if anyone would understand, it would be you guys in this subreddit. Thanks for letting me vent for a second.
