I don’t understand clicker training

Here`s another great article:

My dog has become very hyper-vigilante when it comes to sounds outside and people walking up to house (delivery/mail). He barks and runs up to the window at every little sound and if there’s actually something there like a delivery driver he loses his freaking mind. I’m expecting my first child in February and I cannot have him acting like this. On top of it being obviously very loud and jarring to a newborn, it’s also just incredibly frustrating and stressful to me. I got a clicker to try to stop the behavior, but I honestly don’t get it. I spent a day clicking and treating, the I moved on to telling him “quiet” after he barked and then clicking and treating, but I swear he just put together that barking meant treats. I don’t know. Maybe it’s my pregnant brain that won’t let me see how this actually results in him eventually stopping, but right now I feel like I’m just clicking and treating him for barking. I need someone who knows what they’re doing to explain it to me like I’m a 5yo.
