Here`s another great article:

I have a 9 month old dog that has gotten very good at counter surfing. Other than that, she’s pretty well trained, which is actually a problem in this instance. I’ve tried training her not to counter surf using Kikopup’s method of putting alluring items on the counter and treating her for remaining on the ground. The issue is that my dog knows exactly what I’m asking her to do from all our other training, so she’s a perfect student during training. If I’m not around, or sitting on the couch, she goes right back to jumping to get stuff on the counters.

At this point I think the only option is to introduce some type of aversive (timeout?), but I’d love to hear the thoughts and experiences of people here.
