Here`s another great article:
Hello, currently trying to set up a training routine for getting our dog to stop barking/being aggressive towards strangers, particularly when she is home (she has bitten people in the past, so it is a big problem). She is extremely docile with us though.
Plan: tackle barking at the doorbell first and slowly upping contact with the person on the other side (first just the doorbell, then seeing the person + doorbell etc.). What we've been doing is: once a day + whenever someone shows up, tell her to stop, then sit — wait for a couple seconds, reward with treat.
Question: how do I do this without her learning that 'barking first, then sitting = treat'. It feels like making the distinction between what the reward is for is tricky. Would love some advice! 🙂
