High value treat growling – guarding?

Here`s another great article:

So we have a 12 week puppy and have been trying to identify what is a high value treat for her.

Vet recommended a hoof and we bought it. Well she went crazy for it and this is the first time I heard her growl.

I held the hoof in my hand and gave it to her, she was having the time of her life. I then started touching her sensitive areas to show I was not a threat and would not take it away from her, but she started growling at me.

So what is the consensus here? How do I stop her growling and utilize this treat without making her agressive? It also seems like she could go at it for hours, when do I decide when to stop giving it to her and how do I take it away (since there's really nothing she is willing to trade it for)
