Here`s another great article:
My 5-month-old puppy got bit two months ago on our street. Two dogs got loose from their home nearby, ran up from behind, and one of them bit without warning. I've spent the last two months working on his new fear of dogs, and walking in our neighborhood. His fear of dogs is going well, but I feel like I'm making no progress with our walks.
We'll get just a few houses away before he freezes up. He'll tug to go back, and will sometimes lie down or whine if I try to encourage him to keep going. I've tried going at his pace, new routes, old routes, and tried to encourage with treats – nothing. When we're walking home he does great – no leash pulling, happy, tail wagging.
I've noticed he does better when a roommate joins, as he seems more interested in them than in what's around, so I've started only going on walks when they join to try and set him up for success, but I can't tell if it's actually helping with his fear of our street. Any advice would be greatly appreciated at this point, I'm struggling to make any progress with him and I'm running out of ideas.
