Here`s another great article:
My foster is timid, jumpy, and is scared of sudden or loud sounds. She jumps, freezes, cowers. I have had some success with training her without a clicker (to going outside, wearing a harness) and just tried doing some clicker training to teach her sit. It didn’t work because she is afraid of the clicker sound and backed away from me and wouldn’t take a treat from me until she’d seen I had put it down. Is there anything I can use that’s softer/less scary while I slowly try to get her used to the clicker? Has anyone dealt with this before?
