Biting the bullet and leaving puppy alone?

Here`s another great article:

I have a 5mo Border Collie and were really struggling at the moment. He loves people a little too much and hates being left alone. This hasn’t been too much of an issue in lockdown but now I have to return to work soon and I’m not sure what to do.

We’ve been practicing leaving him alone for as long as he feels comfortable with. So far I can leave the room for 30-45 seconds before he starts barking for me.

I’m not sure what to do. I don’t want to overwhelm him by suddenly leaving him alone for like 2-3 hours in a months time, but I don’t know how I’m gonna then this 30 seconds into something more substantial in 1-2 months which is when I have to return to work.

Has anyone got any tips? I’m not sure if leaving him and just “letting him cry” would be harmful or helpful. I’m really at a loss right now!
