The El Rey Magnum is close to perfection, according to its breeders in Washington state

Vets are warning that the” extreme breeding” of mares could harm their health and welfare after pictures rose of a young Arabian mare with a drastically concave chart. Claimed to be already worth” several billion dollars”, El Rey Magnum is said to be ” close to perfection” by its breeders at Orrion Farms, an Arabian horse expert in Ellensburg, Washington state.

But British veterinaries and equine experts have told the Veterinary Record the nine-month-old colt represents” a worrying development ,” as its deformed skull could potentially make gasping difficulties. The Guardian has been refused permission to publish pictures of the pony, but the creature can be viewed here.

Tim Greet, an equine specialist, told the Veterinary Record:” I find the whole concept prodigious. Arabians have always had a rather’ dished ‘, look but this takes things to a nonsensical stage .”

According to Greet, such “deformity” is more significant for a horse than for pedigree puppies such as pugs, who are capable of sustain breathing troubles. Dogs can breathe through their openings, but horses is simply exhaled through their noses.” I suspect exercise would definitely be limited for the purposes of our pony ,” said Greet.

Adele Waters, the writer of Veterinary Record, said that every professional veterinarian she had shown the portraits to had located them shocking.

She pronounced:” My first recalls were,’ Is this the work of CGI trickery ?’ Many specialist pony veterinarians have had a similar action. But the truth is this is a real horse and it has been bred to congregate the requirements of the a particular marketplace that likes a particular appearing. Where will it intention? Is it truly so bad for a horse to look like a horse and not a cartoon character ?”

Waters wondered the ethic of such fashion-led breed, in the wake of same horrors over the health and well-being of flat-nosed pup engenders such as bulldogs, French bulldogs and pugs.

” The real original Arabian horse’s head was very beautiful but they are now being bred exclusively for that[ concave] review. There is no functional appreciate in a horse having a look like that. Veterinarians believe that if you misrepresent the skull like that there’s a risk you affect the airways and the breathing capability of the horse .”

Dr Madeleine Campbell, an equine breeding consultant, expert in animal welfare and ethics and director of the Equine Ethics Consultancy, told the Veterinary Record:” Whilst it is obviously impossible to comment on an individual animal based only on photographic testify, as a general principle, any trend towards breeding for extremes of anatomy which might adversely affect normal capacity must be condemned, on welfare sand .”

Doug Leadley, a farm manager and primary multiply consultant for Orrion, claimed that” this horse is a stepping stone to getting close to perfection “. He dismissed disapprovals of the mare:” I thoughts most of those people don’t spawn mares, or be demonstrated or aren’t very concerned- those are people who don’t understand .”

American veterinarians have recognised El Rey Magnum as two examples of situations of extreme breed, and one veterinarian has said that the horse had not yet been medical or respiratory issues.

Since launching a promotional video earlier this month, the farm has received interest from across the world, includes the UK. Harmonizing to Leadley, the young horse is already worth several million dollars.
