The El Rey Magnum is close to perfection, according to its breeders in Washington state

Vets are warning that the” extreme multiplying” of mares could harm their health and welfare after pictures developed of a young Arabian pony with a drastically concave profile. Claimed to be already worth “several million dollars”, El Rey Magnum is said to be ” close to perfection” by its breeders at Orrion Farms, an Arabian pony professional in Ellensburg, Washington state.

But British vets and equine experts have told the Veterinary Record the nine-month-old colt represents” a worrying development ,” as its deformed skull to have been able to generate wheezing impediments. The Guardian has been refused permission to publish photographs of the horse, but the character can be viewed here.

Tim Greet, an equine specialist, told the Veterinary Record:” I find the whole happen inconceivable. Arabians have always had a rather’ dished ‘, appearance but this takes things to a laughable level .”

According to Greet, such “deformity” is more significant for a pony than for pedigree dogs such as pugs, which are able to lose breathing difficulties. Dogs can breathe through their mouths, but horses is simply breathed through their snouts.” I suspect usage are certainly be limited for the purposes of our horse ,” said Greet.

Adele Waters, the writer of Veterinary Record, “re just saying that” every professional veterinarian she had shown the images to had seen them shocking.

She said:” My first thinks were,’ Is this the work of CGI trickery ?’ Many specialist mare veterinaries have had a same reaction. But the truth is this is a real horse and it has been spawned to meet the demands of a particular marketplace that likes a specific appearance. Where will it aim? Is it genuinely so bad for a horse to look like a horse and not a cartoon attribute ?”

Waters interrogated the moral of such fashion-led breeding, in the wake of similar suspicions over the health and welfare of flat-nosed dog engenders such as bulldogs, French bulldogs and pugs.

” The real original Arabian horse’s head was very beautiful but they are now being engendered solely for that[ concave] examine. “Were not receiving” functional cost in a pony having a appearance like that. Vets is argued that if you misrepresent the skull like that there’s a risk you feign the airways and the breathing ability of the mare .”

Dr Madeleine Campbell, an equine breeding specialist, expert in animal welfare and ethics and head of the Equine Ethics Consultancy, told the Veterinary Record:” Whilst it is obviously hopeless make a few comments on an individual animal based only on photographic testify, as a general principle, any veer towards multiplying for extremes of way which is able to adversely affect ordinary part must be condemned, on welfare soils .”

Doug Leadley, a farm director and primary produce consultant for Orrion, claimed that” this pony is a stepping stone to getting close to perfection “. He rejected disapprovals of the pony:” I speculate the majority of members of those people don’t spawn ponies, or show them or aren’t very implied- those are people who don’t understand .”

American veterinarians have recognised El Rey Magnum as an example of an extreme raise, and one veterinary has said that the pony has no medical or respiratory issues.

Since launching a promotional video earlier this month, “the farmers ” has received interest from across the world, includes the UK. According to Leadley, the young pony is already worth several million dollars.
