Smelly Tear Stains?

Here`s another great article:

Hi everyone,

This is my first post so if I need to move it I'm more than willing. We got a Havanese puppy at the end of July. His name is Finnian. We've had ups and downs dealing with giardia that the breeder neglected to tell us about before we put down our deposit, so Finn is on his third round of Panacur and Metronidazole.

I didn't know if that was important to mention since I didnt know if it has anything to do with his tear stains.

I know from owning Maltese in the past that white/light dogs get tear stains, and sometimes it smells. But his tear stains have begun to smell really bad since the second round of meds and I'm starting to get a little worried about it. His next vet appointment is in October for his fecal for the giardia, and his eyes don't seem to bother him. We use filtered water, but I'm wondering if we should switch to bottled or distilled to see if it goes away.

I feel a bit stupid asking for help on such a small issue, but he's my first puppy outside of being responsible for family dogs when I was living with my parents, and the vet has already made a small joke regarding how protective (read: probably alarmist and insane) I am about him.

(I've seen on other threads something about a puppy tax but I'm still trying learn to use reddit, so you'll have to take my word for it that he's way too cute, lol.)
