Here`s another great article:
Any suggesting on toning down the barking of a rough collie? We recently lost our collie shepherd and he was a barker, and it was endearing in a way. We grew to love it but it was still sometimes annoying and sometimes prevented us from doing stuff because he would disturb the peace.
Anyway, we’ve not got ourselves a 14 week old land shark rough collie puppy and the barking is starting. Now I know collies are vocal and their supposed to be, so I absolutely do not want to eliminate this behavior entirely. Some suggested using the pet corrector noise things, but I feel like that would be an overall deterrent and I don’t want that. I just want him to learn the command “quiet” but I’m not sure how to do that. When I offer praise for a behavior, he gets really excited and then starts barking and going crazy. And he’s still a puppy, so that’s normal, just wondering how I can start working on this.
