returning my puppy under sad circumstances

Here`s another great article:

We picked up a 8-week-old Newfie puppy last week. Lovely, sweet, and personality for days. We were told that she had a grade 1 heart murmur(out of 6), and that it was likely something she would grow out of. We go to our vet who tells us she has a grade 3, which is very concerning for a dog of this age. We go to have a second opinion, and they agree with the grade 3 murmur, and help us get an electrocardiogram to look at the heart. There is a significant heart defect that will shorten her life without incredibly expensive surgery we can't afford. We contacted the breeder, who offered to exchange, and we took her up on it. Even though it's only been a few days with our current pup, we feel devastated. Did we do the right thing?
