Here`s another great article:
Our recently-adopted 4.5 month old pit mix cannot handle herself around food. She's incredibly food-motivated, which has made housebreaking and some basic obedience training quite simple. But when it comes time to feed her, she loses all focus and restraint and goes absolutely bananas, to the point where we can't even get her bowl on the ground without a mess. It's a similar situation when we're eating our own food. We don't have a dining table in our apartment, so we eat on the couch/coffee table which is right at her nose level. We have thought about crating her during mealtime, but are also working on making the crate feel like a friendly space and not a place of punishment.
Would love to hear how others with highly food-motivated dogs have dealt with this!
