Here`s another great article:
Posting on here because I don’t know what else to do. My Maltese, Daisy, keeps peeing inside even though she knows she isn’t supposed to. I’ve had her since she was a puppy. She was a gift when I was a young teenager and I had no idea how to raise a puppy then.
I didn’t know how to potty train her when she was a puppy and she never quite picked it up. Fast forward to my 18-20s and we made progress on the potty training. She wouldn’t have accidents as often as she would before but would always have an accident if I left her alone in the room(separation anxiety?). When we moved to an apartment, the routine walks helped reduce the amount of accidents she had. The reason I’m posting this now is because she had a really good streak where she wasn’t having any accidents at all (or once in a blue moon). Recently though she has been peeing inside despite knowing she shouldn’t. I’m not sure what’s causing it. Today she peed on my bed and blankets and the night before that she peed on my moms rug. She also peed when we had guests over leaving a trail of pee in our room. In the past, she has peed in trails when she was upset with me. I should mention, I got another dog two years ago who I successfully trained through routine and praise but that method hasn’t worked for Daisy.
Thanks so much for taking the time to read this. I appreciate any response or tips you may have for me.
TLDR; 7 year old Maltese wasn’t potty trained as a puppy and has had continuous issues with potty training.
