Here`s another great article:
I am just beginning positive reinforcement training and reading "Don't Shoot the Dog" by Karen Pryor. My dog is a 4 year old lab/retriever/possibly more mix.
Everything makes sense that I am ready so far but I am wondering… How do I positively reinforce a behavior that isn't happening, and how do I do it if my dog wont pay attention to me for the reward.
She is very leash reactive and it is like I am not even there while she is focused on the other dog. I click the clicker when she is just barely reacting, trying to reward her for not full on exploding – and she often ignores it or comes and gets a treat and goes right back to reacting. Any thoughts for a beginner on this or is the something my book will likely just teach me and I am putting the card ahead of the horse by worrying about it.
