Here`s another great article:
We recently got a 9 month old Shih Tzu named Gianna. She has little to no training.
Over the course of 6 days, I've managed to teach her how to "sit" and "wait". The issues she's having are with the commands "down" and "leave it", as well as potty training.
She will ignore her toys that she is supposed to bite and bite things she isn't supposed to bite. This includes hands, clothes, shoes, whether they're on a person or not. She jumps and nips at people's faces, which is the reason she was given away by her former owner, who had a small toddler that kept getting knocked over. We haven't been able to get her to stop doing it despite our efforts.
When I take her out to go potty she spends the time sniffing plants and eating them. Then she tries to go back inside again if I don't let her get near the plants. She will also carry her poo around the house in her mouth and leave it in random places. She also pees inside sometimes, even though I've been diligently taking her outside once every hour to prevent any more accidents.
I am aware of how to train a dog, but Gianna is part of a notably stubborn breed. Being a puppy, she is also very easily distracted, and can't focus on more than one thing at a time. Any advice is welcome and very much appreciated. Thank you!
