Here`s another great article:
I want to start off by saying thank you for all those respond, I really appreciate any help/advice. We don't have too many pictures of our little guy so I will pay the puppy tax after we pick him up =D
This was also posted in r/Corgi so if you're subscribed to that subreddit, please excuse the double post.
TL;DR: Picking up our first puppy this Saturday. This is our first puppy ever so we are both super excited and nervous at the same time. he is a Pembroke Welsh Corgi and he will be 12 weeks old. Any advice on things to get, training, socialization, or anything you feel we should know or is helpful, would be appreciated.
My SO and I are bringing home our little boy, Winston, this Saturday. He is a Pembroke Welsh Corgi and he will be 12 weeks old and he is our first dog. Neither of us had a dog before so we are super nervous and worried that we aren't prepared enough. We have already got the following:
Crate: 30" L x 19" W x 21" H Exercise Pen: 30" height Medium Flat Collar (10 – 16", 5/8" wide) XSmall Martingale Collar (10-14", 5/8" wide) ID Tag (includes my name, number and city but I left out his name) Nylon Leash (6' long, 5/8" wide) Ceramic Water Bowl and Food Bowl Dual Pin and Bristle Brush Fine Tooth Comb (I am hoping to upgrade to a Greyhound comb later on) Virbac Toothbrush and Toothpaste (The brush is for a cat but I am guessing the size is good for a puppy) Isle of Dogs Tearless Puppy Shampoo Kong Toy (we got a medium but we are not sure if this is too big or small for the puppy) Several other toys (including chew toys, rope toys, and squeaky/stuffed toys) Treat pouch and clicker Poop bags Potty Training bell
Is there anything that I might have forgotten? Is there any suggestion of stuff I need that I have not gotten? I am hoping these are the appropriate sizes so please let me know if they are not. My breeder suggested we get a 10 collar so I am assuming she meant 10" and she said 200 crate but I wasn't able to find a crate with the exact dimension she provided. This was the closest I was able to find.
We got the following treats for the puppy to start:
Old Mother Hubbard Dog Biscuits Orijen Original Treats N-Bone Teething Rings Raw Marrow Bone
Are there any other treats that is recommended?
He is currently on Pro-Plan Sport but we were thinking of switching him to Acana or Orijen Puppy (Large Breed). I was wondering if there are any thoughts or suggestions on this. Is Acana good enough or should I switch him over to Orijen? Money isn't really a concern since the price difference is nominal for the two brands.
Any suggestions on how I should switch the puppy over and over how long of a period? Our breeder is giving us at least 1 week's worth of the food he is on now.
Is there anything else I need or do to prepare for the puppy's arrival?
I would really appreciate any advice that can be provided to me for car ride home and the first night/week at home to make things easier for both us and the puppy.
Is there anything I should have or do to make the transition easier for the puppy?
Any tips on training and socializing is also welcomed.
Any advice is appreciated!
