Here`s another great article:
Hi there we have had our dog for 10 years, and she came to us from a rescue home so she has her fair share of neediness and anxiety. Relevant background – she hates the sound of Smoke alarm batteries dying, and bang/gunshots/fireworks. Reacts with shaking, quivering, drooling, and wanting to hide at the back of the garden or just away! Recently we installed a stair lift for an elderly member of the household. The dog hates the sound of the stair lift and freezes, starts to shake and pant, and then to salivate, every time it is used. It can take up to 30 minutes for her to start to relax again.
The whole point of the stair lift was to return up and down mobility to the elderly member. This isn't going to work well if every time it is used it traumatizes the dog – any suggestions on helping her to realize it isn't a threat? It does seem to be a sound thing – if the TV is loud enough to mask the sound it doesn't seem to bother her at all.
Thanks in advance!
