Here`s another great article:
Hey everyone, I have a 3 month old puppy who we were told was a Shepherd mix, but he looks exactly like an Australian Kelpie. Anyway, he is in his teething phase and biting everything. Most of the time this is fine, and when he bites things he's not supposed to, we use the techniques of redirection and treats to make him stop.
However, he has taken a liking to my clothes and oftentimes will bite my shorts and pull really hard. I try redirection and treats to stop him, but he just really likes the shorts. Then whenever I try to pull him off of the shorts or open his mouth to unhook his teeth from my shorts, he growls very aggressively. This is a growl that is more aggressive than a playing growl.
I am sort of at a loss of what to do. Part of me wants to just let him do it, and part of me wants to be more aggressive with him when he growls so that he knows who is boss, but I don't know if that will have negative consequences in the future. If you have some tips, I am all ears!
