How do I make a dog follow commands more quickly?

Here`s another great article:

My dogs know all the basic commands, but they are very stubborn (typical pugs) and it takes multiple tries every single time to get them to listen. For example, we go outside at least 4 times a day, and I make them all sit before we go back into the house and it still takes 5 minutes or so until they are all sitting, even though we have been doing this for 6+ months! Similarly, I make them all lie down before I start serving them dinner, and it takes forever for them all to do it at the same time. Does anyone have any tips for making dogs listen to commands more quickly? I am 100% sure they know the commands, but they still like to grumble and pout every single time before they finally cave and do what I ask.
