Help! Training tips for dog barking at birds flying by our balcony window?

Here`s another great article:

We just moved into a new apartment about 2 months ago and our dog has just recently discovered that he can see birds flying by outside our balcony window. Every time one flies by he starts barking at it and gets himself soooo worked up that he doesn't calm down for the rest of the day. He just waits for more birds to come while growling and scratching at the window. Even after we take him for a walk, he just runs right back to the windows and gets all worked up again. I've closed the curtains right now and he is calming down, but I would like to have them open so that we get in more light and so he has something to look at during the day while we are gone.

I don't really know where to start in training him not to go ballistic every time a bird flies by. Any tips on what to do? Thanks!
