Dominant Female Dog

Here`s another great article:

My wife and I adopted an Australian Kelpie/Cattle Dog just over a month ago. She’s approximately 2 years old and was found on the street some time ago. We realize we’re learning more and more about her everyday, but recently she’s been acting dominant/guarding of my wife and I around our friends and other dogs. It’s escalated to some light nipping and growling when strangers, particularly females try to pet or interact with her. She’ll accept treats from females with no problems, but the second someone tries to pet her, she nips/growls.

She doesn’t do it to us thankfully as I believe we’ve established we’re top dogs. Its not a fear thing as her hackles aren’t up and there isn’t barking. My wife and I are at a loss because every article out there is conflicting. Any help is appreciated.
