Here`s another great article:
My dog is 6 years old, house trained. I used to live in an apt where i would walk her 3/4 times a day, but it’s been over a year since we moved to a house with a yard. She also spends lots of weekends at my parents with a yard. She loves to just sit out side and/or play outside and, when someone is home (afternoons/evenings), can go in and out as she pleases. Typically, before bed i let her out one more time and say “go pee” or “pee time” and she goes pretty quickly. Lately, she will NOT go and just sits out there. I keep redirecting her by pointing to the grassy area and saying “go pee.” If she goes, I give a treat. If she doesn’t, After so long, I get frustrated because it’s late and I’m tired. I don’t want her to get a UTI from holding it too long, but I can’t force her to go. i tried putting her back on the leash and bringing her to the grassy areas but she resists. Should I just give up after a few minutes since she had the opportunity to go (at that time and throughout the evening) and maybe just doesn’t have to? Any other suggestions? Thanks!
