Dog is extremely afraid of going on walks and the general outdoors if it’s not my backyard, any tips?

Here`s another great article:

My dog loves to run around my backyard and bark at/with the neighbors dog. He is a super friendly dog, but relatively shy. He’s always alert, and is reacting to all sounds around him.

Any time I pick up the leash he runs to his favorite spot tail wrapped underneath him and just sits. He won’t run when I walk up with the leash and hook it on, just sit there. Then when it’s hooked he starts following me where I go, he doesn’t fight the leash.

He seems very unhappy/stressed on our walks, and is pretty scared of cars. He loves seeing other people and dogs , but not enough to want to go for walks I guess.

Any tips on getting over this fear/anxiety of the unknown outdoors??
