Dealing with crazy puppy excitement upon meeting people

Here`s another great article:

My puppy loves all people, but with certain people, like my doggy day-care lady, she really does go nuts when she sees her. In order to train this out my trainers have suggested that we basically play the 'attention game'. So you hold her steady on the leash and ignore her if she pulls. Call her attention and when she looks back, click, and treat. Then you take one step forwards.

The problem is that she just goes into this cycle of "OK I'm CRAZY excited; now I get my treat; now I go CRAZY excited; now I get my treat, etc.".

She's a small dog, so I can handle her, but the jumping and leash pulling is bad. I have a feeling that I'm not doing this exercise as effectively as I could. I'm wondering if any of you have tips?
