Crate training rescue

/ by

sourced from:

Here`s another great article:

We just brought a rescue home that’s about a year old. He goes in the crate ok at bedtime but starts to whine/wiggle around 2am. We do a potty break just in case but try to keep it boring to avoid rewarding the behavior. He goes back in the crate and settles down for a little while (just long enough for me to fall asleep) but then freaks out. Whining, clawing the crate, yelping, etc.

Any thoughts/advice on the middle of the night crate freak out? I’m used to the whining when they first enter the crate. Considering sleeping next to the crate for a night to see if that helps but am concerned that reinforces the behavior. Thanks!
