Crate training question

Here`s another great article:

My wife and I just got an 8 week old Corgi and, as everyone does, we’re having trouble with the little girl crying all night in the crate. I never used a crate with my animals growing up but my wife has raised several dogs. She insists that the puppy will be fine crying it out in the crate from day 1 and she’ll learn that crying gets her nowhere except a bathroom break. Every website and article I find says it’s not the best to make them use the crate from the first week on. I wake up twice a night to let the pup out to pee and then return her to the crate. Is this ok? Or should we really be easing her into this by not forcing it on her so soon? We’re on night 3.
