Crate training an escape artist who is NOT destructive

Here`s another great article:

About 3 weeks ago we adopted a 5 month old female spanish pointer mix and have been trying to crate train her. She is housebroken and doing great with everything except the crate. When we put her in the crate, she escapes. But she is not at all destructive. She breaks out of the crate and takes naps. She doesn’t chew anything, or potty anywhere or get into anything she is not supposed to. Is there any harm in abandoning the crate training? Is it a bad idea to give her free roam of the house?
