A puppy in the City

Here`s another great article:

Hi everyone, I just recently got a puppy. I live and work in NYC so I'm seeking some advice about having a dog in the city.

He's a 7 week old Australian Shepherd and he's great so far! Just a few accidents. I've had him for about a week. (He's from a rescue litter who's mom didn't make it. That's why I got him so early)

I have a backyard in my apartment. The issue is that you must walk through my roommates room to get there, and the door is very loud. I wake up to take him out at 630 and they wake up a couple hours later than me for work.

They were nice enough to let me go through the back in the morning this first week because i wanted to let him adjust a little before putting him in a harness.

I've started taking him out front to the street but he's very distracted and it's hard to get him to potty. He's gone from pooping 4 times a day to 1 or 2. Is this normal? Is it because of the change? (He's never gone poop in the apartment, and he doesn't seem to have to go)

My roommates say he's fine to go out in the back anytime that they're awake, but I don't want to confuse him with all the places to potty.

Does anyone have any advice?
